Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, yet most cases are preventable – and many are treatable when detected early. Raising awareness is the first step toward saving lives.
🔍 What is Lung Cancer?
Lung cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably in the lungs. It may spread silently and is often diagnosed late due to minimal early symptoms.
There are two major types:
Non–Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) – most common, slower growing
Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) – aggressive, strongly linked to smoking
⚠️ Warning Signs
If any of these symptoms persist for more than 2–3 weeks, consult a doctor:
Persistent cough
Blood in sputum
Breathlessness
Chest or shoulder pain
Unexplained weight loss or fatigue
Repeated chest infections
🧪 Who Should Get Screened?
Low-Dose CT Scan (LDCT) is recommended for:
✔ Adults 50–80 years
✔ 20+ pack-years smoking history
✔ Current smokers OR those who quit within the last 15 years
✔ High-risk exposure (asbestos, radon, industrial fumes, heavy pollution)
Early-stage lung cancer is potentially curable. Screening saves lives.
🚭 Prevention
Quit smoking – the most effective preventive step
Avoid secondhand smoke
Improve ventilation while cooking
Reduce exposure to pollution and industrial toxins
Get screened if you are at high risk
